This 2nd lieutenant with the 10th Cavalry, the famed "Buffalo Soldier's," participated in the charge up San Juan Hill during the Spanish-American War and was wounded; he also served as aide to General Wood in Cuba and the Philippines and then to Major General Theodore Roosevelt; in 1917 he was named member of the General Staff of the American Expeditionary Forces and commanded the 63rd Infantry Brigade. TNS, 1p, 7¼" X 10½", Chicago, IL, 1935 Mat 2. Addressed to Louis Thuringer. Very good. Some mild wrinkling. On letterhead of "War Department / Headquarters Sixth Corps Area," McCoy regrets he hasn't a photograph to send, but hopes "this letter will furnish you with my autograph." Boldly signed in full in black ink.
