Blue cloth with some mild staining to the front cover and a couple of tiny marks to the rear. The jacket is unclipped with the price revised in pencil, some edge wear and creasing, small chips and one larger chip to the front panel. The endpapers at the rear have some staining and paper abrasion. No inscriptions. Starting out as a Futurist Mayakovsky [1893-1930] welcomed the Revolution and became a leading poet and writer of the Soviet era whose avant-garde tendencies saw him clash with the prevailing ethos of Soviet realism. Timothy's Horse was first published as 'The Fire Horse' in 1927. The story of a young boy who wants to be a cavalryman so his father decides to buy him a hobbyhorse and the tale recounts he enlists the help of a number of craftsmen to make the horse. The illustrator Constantini [1926-2013] was influenced by collage as can be seen here where he uses cut-out heads within the body of the illustrations. This UK edition of the title is rare.
