The spine ends are badly frayed; the corners of the covers are worn, rubbed through & frayed. The binding cloth is significantly worn. The volume has sustained some damp damage & the front cover is bowed outward. The first pastedown & endpaper show traces of removed label & pocket. Tidemarks (dampstaining) are visible on all edges throughout the book, but are most noticeable towards the front of the volume; some cockling to pages. Old library marks embossed on color plates. Rear endpaper detached but present. Despite all this, the book is still intact & is a perfectly serviceable reading copy with all the plates present. Illustrated with color lithographs depicting tattooed heads, a ceremonial buffalo robe, pictographs & totemic symbols. Also included are B&W plates showing numerous census symbols, aboriginal drawings, examples of pottery & ceramics & ornamentation. Pages: 532.
