No map is called for but one has been removed from between Pages 12/13. Original cloth lettered gilt to spine Spine faded and the binding is generally worn, creased and marked. Inner hinges cracked. Once in the Officer's Mess, 2nd Bn The Seaforth Highlanders with indications of provenance to front endpapers. Seldom seen in either good or bad condition.

Publisher's tan cloth with dark-brown lettering to the front board and spine. 8 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches; 213 pp.; folding map (at rear), frontispiece portrait (with tissue guard) and 31 plates after photographs (all present), half-title. A near fine copy. Boards exceptionally bright and clean. Spine tips pushed. "In remembrance" in fountain pen to the front free end-paper. Offsetting to the half-title. In the exceedingly scarce tan dustwrapper priced 16/- net to the spine (as called for). The near fine dustwrapper is browned to the spine, rubbed to the spine edges, creased (and with a 3 cm closed tear) to the head of the spine. "The author enjoyed considerable sporting leaves during his thirty years of service. Besides African experiences, he relates hunting tiger near Secunderabad in India in 1881, with additional tiger hunts near the Godavari River a year later. In 1899, he hunted blackbuck near Meerut, then traveled into the Himalayas where he bagged several bears. He also collected sambur and more tigers in the Dehra Doon" (Czech).
