Original black cloth lettered gilt on spine. Red wrapping paper dust jacket depicting musical instruments (not original). Typewritten xeroxed text. Presentation copy: 'To Clive Gimson With kind regards & thanks for your interest. J. Cecil Maby 18/7/67.' Typed signed letter loosely inserted from Maby to Gimson written on headed notepaper from Brooke House, Frocester, Stonehouse, Glos dated July 18th 1967 and consisting of about 350 words in which he describes the book as 'a rather odd and unorthodox compilation! He trusts 'that no great alarm or despondency will result from its perusal. Much is of an independent spirit (purposely), and Part II definitely inflammable.' Essays on a wide range of diverse topics including womanhood, superstition, hermaphroditus, education, human nature, sex, death, religion and scientists among others. Appendix loosely inserted with handwritten note stating to be included after p. 221 in Maby's book 'Confessions of a Sensitive'. 1966. Includes copies of photographs of trance drawings, handwriting, ectoplasm and other abnormal images. pp. 8. Also loosely inserted a copy of an illustration of Marlshill House, near Cheltenham (the subject of one of the above images) and a typewritten page giving Advice to Sceptics. Several copied typed lists of reviews of Maby's books, including this one, loosely inserted. Joseph Cecil MabyÊ(1902-1971) was a BritishÊbiophysicist, dowser andÊpsychical researcher. Clive Gimson (1919-1982) housemaster and teacher at Bradfield College who Lord David Owen states in a book entitled, 'Favourite Heroes and Holy People' was 'a devout but questioning Christian.' Two pages with Reader's Opinions stuck together at front. Spine slightly used, otherwise very good. Light wear otherwise very good. Signedes.
