Leather Bound. Condición: Very Good. 1st Thus. 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 518 pages; 1821 Johann Bar, Lancaster; 12mo. , 18 cm. Bound in full period calf over wooden boards with 5 raised bands at spine; one brass clasp on strap intact, partial 2nd strap. Text printed in two columns. This was Bar's (Baer) first printing of The New Testament, a short time after he successfully printed the first folio German Language Bible in America. . [4], 518, [6] p. ; Prior ownership of Samuel Lang dated 1826 penned to the 2nd blank at front. Front endpages with some illegible manuscript , a few pencil doodles and the old ink stamp of the mid 20th century Provident Bookstore in downtown Lancaster, PA. Rear endpages lightly dampstained and with penned manuscript names, generally illegible. Two inch split to the leather over the rear joint. Expected moderate toning and spotting throughout to page stock. A solid and attractive copy with all original endpages present Increasingly uncommon. VG thus.

Prior ownership of what appears to be a Susana Metzler on the front flyleaf, dated 1823. Leather chipped at base of spine and just lightly rubbed at edges. Expected moderate toning throughout to page stock. A solid and attractive copy with all original endpages present, boards snug in joints and original hardware in neat condition. A much nicer copy this printing than we have seen in some years. Increasingly uncommon. VG.
