Iustus Lipsius ou en français Juste Lipse, de son nom d'origine Joost Lips, né à Overijse (Duché de Brabant) le 18 octobre 1547 et décédé à Louvain le 23 mars 1606, est un philologue et humaniste qui vécut dans ce qui était alors les Pays-Bas espagnols et aujourd'hui la Belgique. Il s'efforça, notamment avec la composition de son essai De Constantia, de promouvoir un stoïcisme chrétien renouvelé du stoïcisme ancien. Par là, il devait influencer nombre de ses contemporains, donnant naissance au courant du néo-stoïcisme. Il enseigna dans les universités d Iéna, Leyde et Louvain. Ses idées sur le citoyen idéal, comme individu responsable, dont le comportement est dicté par la Raison, qui reste maître de ses émotions, et est prêt à combattre pour le service de la Cité, firent de nombreux adeptes dans les temps troublés de la Réforme. L'idéal citoyen de Juste-Lipse, transposé à la politique, se traduit concrètement par une rationalisation de l'État et de ses organes exécutifs, un gouvernement autoritaire du prince, l'éducation des citoyens à la discipline, et une militarisation importante de la Société. Ces principes sont à la base du concept d'État moderne, tel qu'il se développa dans la République des Provinces-Unies. Livres.

Oferowane dzieło "De Constantia" (O stałości) autorstwa sławnego humanisty flamandzkiego Justusa Lipsiusa (1547 - 1606), jest zbiorem zasad nowej filozofii stoickiej, tzw. neostoicyzmu. Napisane w formie dialogu było próbą połączenia stoicyzmu i chrześcijaństwa. Ta nowa filozofia miała pomóc przetrwać trudny okres wojen religijnych, dla której "stałość" miała być najważniejszą z cnót. Traktaty Lipsiusa były najpełniejszym wykładem stoicyzmu od czasów starożytnych.

Buon esempl. con alcune bruniture e gore marginali. L'A. (1547-1606) fu un celebre filologo e dotto poligrafo e la sua attivit? si rivolse quasi esclusivamente al mondo romano esplicandosi in edizioni di testi e in dissertazioni di critica testuale e antiquaria. The first edition of "Manuduction to Stoic Philosophy" by the famous Flemish philosopher Justus Lipsius (1547-1606). Much later, 20th-century binding. The book was printed in the celebrated Officina Plantiniana (or, to be precise, in Plantijn's workshop inherited by Moretus, Plantijn's son-in-law. The title page is decorated with a cut/vignette: an engraving with allegorical figures of labourers and Plantijn's motto "Labore et constantia" (Through hard work and perseverance). Pages are decorated with several initials (woodcuts). /// Half-leather binding; hardback, [12]+212+[4] pp., 8° (17.5 x 25 cm), leather and boards only slightly worn, edges darkened, two leaves were chipped (skilfully fixed by bookbinder), most pages yellowed, three leaves slightly tanned, several pages have (very old and minor) pen marginalia and underlining, some leaves are slightly waterstained along edges, several leaves have bookworm traces (text not affected), title leaf has a small tear, condition: good Book Language/s: Latin.

(8611) Bella edizione plantiniana, più completa della prima che era apparsa nel 1600 sempre per i tipi del Plantin, di questa dotta dissertazione, una delle ultime opere del grande erudito belga Iustus Lipsius, o Juste Lipse, (1547-1606), grande latinista, giurista, studioso di antichità romane, professore a Lovanio, a Jena e a Leida. Come è noto, Lipsio, educato nei Paesi Bassi dai Gesuiti, passò al luteranismo, poi al calvinismo, e infine ritornò nel grembo del cattolicesimo (il suo principio fu infatti che era opportuno professare la religione della nazione in cui si viveva).
