Ca. 1919. Woodcut on thin Japanese ricepaper.The print is page 9, published in 'Wendingen' in 1919. It has three separate depictions on the print. One depicting Christ, insulted. One with multatuli being honoured and one prayer card for home devotion.The print had extra information in a small block: ''Christus beleedigd / multatuli hulde/en bidprentje/ gesneden in /palmhout kops/ door/ J. Rotterdam, W.L. & J. Brusse, 1923. 25 x 19 cm. Ingenaaid. XVI, 72, 84 p. Geïllustreerd. Met twee speciaal voor dit boek vervaardigde houtsneden van Chris Lebeau. 1e druk. Mooi exemplaar. Ingenaaide versie zonder de spectaculaire band en de schutbladen, maar mét het abstract-expressieve omslag dat de organische typografie van de tekst versterkt. Het vierde deel van de prachtige serie boeken over de actuele stand van zaken in de Nederlandse toegepaste kunst, uitgegeven met steun van de overheid. Dit is een spectaculair boek waarvan de vormgeving radicaal anders is dan de deftige en ietwat traditionele eerste drie jaarboeken! De vormgever is Mathieu Lauweriks (1864-1932), architect en ontwerper, tevens redacteur van het tijdschrift Wendingen. Alle tekstpagina's zijn decoratief opgezet met tekstblokken die de vorm hebben van een boom. Alleen de geheel uit dikke rechte balkjes uit de drukkerij opgezette titelpagina wijkt daarvan af. Twee hoofdrolspelers van de moderne bouwkunst, die beiden in november 1923 jong waren overleden, worden allebei herdacht met een paginagrote houtsnede van Chris Lebeau en herdenkingsartikelen: Michel de Klerk en Karel de Bazel.
