Libro
Hardcover. Condición: Fair. No Jacket. ii, [4], 504 pages, frontispiece, 5 folding plans, 4 (of 6) black and white plates. Dated 1920 on the title page, this volume differs in several ways from the imprint of 1921. Frontispiece plate, reproducing a painting of William Jardine (found facing page 467 in the imprint of 1921); dated 1920 on title page; recto of following leaf entitled "Preface," without further text; recto of following leaf entitled "List of illustrations and plans" without list, but with short note in Chinese laid in. Otherwise, the text of this and of the 1921 imprint are, as far as we are able to determine, identical, with three small exceptions: on pages 499, 500, and 503 of our copy three minor typographical emendations have been made in pencil and in pen; these corrections have been made in the 1921 printing. Our copy lacks the reproduction of a painting of The Bund, as well as an image of The Custom House, Shanghai, in the fifties. Publisher's cloth binding worn, exposure at corners and edges, boards and spine nearly detached, chipping to head and foot of spine; inner hinges broken, 2x2 blank paper label pasted to upper hinge corner of front free endpaper, contents age-toned, a few marginal marks, page numbers in blue pencil to upper fore-corner of plates. 1260 grams.
