New condition yellow boards with purple spine lettering contained in a new condition non price-clipped color illustrated dust jacket. Includes Epilogue: From Ordinary to Extraordinary; Acknowledgments; Endnotes; and Index. Second Printing. "Based on a breakthrough study of over 2,600 leaders." "What does it take to succeed at the top? Botelho and Powell offer the answer - and it's not what you think. Drawing on a remarkable analysis of thousands of current and potential CCEOs, they find that the best of the best share some common traits. They may not all come from fancy schools, but they do know how to make smart decisions, adapt to changed circumstances, and work honestly and directly with customers and employees. Whether you're running a large organization or simply have your eye on the corner office, this book should be your guide." - Daniel H. Pink, author of When and Drive "Debunks a host of myths about what it takes to become a CEO - and succeed as one. Based on an impressive database of intensive interviews with executives, it turns out that big failures and small egos are among the building blocks of great leadership. You won't ever look at the corner office in the same way again." - Adam Grant, New York Times bestselling author "The CEO Next Door is the go-to guide for every aspiring professional for how to play and win at the very top of their game. Botelho and Powell weave together cutting-edge leadership research with practical advice and inspiring stories to create a sueful and credible road map." - Marshall Goldsmith, #1 Leadership Thinker and author.

Buch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Despite calls since the 1970s for more research into the history of old age, there is still a relative dearth of historical studies on the elderly, especially in the pre-industrial past. This volume remedies much of that deficiency with essays exploring the lives of old men and old women, and the images of old age and aging, in early modern Europe and America. Collectively, the chapters demonstrate there was a strong association of advanced age with authority in the lived experience of older men and women. This book recognizes poverty and physical limitations were a very real threat, but challenges the tendency of existing literature on historical gerontology to associate old age with dependence and disability. Instead, what emerges from this volume is the success of older people in the past in imbuing their old age with dignity, despite the often vicious nature of old age in both popular and elite literature.Essays are brought together on old age in early modern England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and America, enabling comparisons that cross geographical boundaries. Historians of old age, the family, demography, social history and cultural history will value this volume, as will sociologists and anthropologists interested in gerontology.
