For much of his life, Algie Martin Simons was at the heart of the socialist movement, when, in the early part of the 20th century, the Socialist Party seemed to have a real chance to become a major political force in America. He was a nationalist but not an isolationist, which was popular at the time. He was a significant force in the Industrial Workers of the World movement and tried to make socialism an American alternative. He gradually became disillusioned with the party and finally broke away in 1917. His biography illuminates many of the social and political movements in early 20th century America. 236 pages with Index. 9.5 x 6.25 inches. University of Kentucky Press, Lexington, Kentucky, 1969.
