The extended sub-title describes the book as: "A recortd of a head-hunting people gradually emerging from a life of savage cruelty and bloody customs, with a description of their manners and ways and of the beauties and potentialities of the islands." Since 1929 the Solomons have been occupied by the Japanese, re-colonised, become independent to now face internal strife and insecurity. 282 pages, with 14 pages of publishers adverts at back, 16 b/w photos. Red hard covers in VG condition with few spots, slightly faded spine and front top, gilt titles and front illustration, back board slightly loose. Dealer label low on front pastedown, FFEP browned, one short underline noted, occasional light foxing, text block otherwise excellent.
