Hardcover - Sixth edition. From the introduction by S. S. McClure: "This is the story, told by himself, of a Negro of education, intelligence and sensitivity" and of the school he founded for the "poorest and most ignorant of his race" at Piney Woods in Mississippi. Before he founded this school in 1909, Jones, who was then a young man, had born in Missouri, had graduated from the University of Iowa, and until then had never been in the deep rural south where so many black Americans lived in poverty.I llustrated with photographs. 151 pp. Just about fine, in olive green decorative cloth binding with white lettering on spine and front cover. Lettering is bright, corners unbumped, book shows almost no signs of wear. Dust jacket is somewhat frayed and worn around the edges, tear on the side of the spine. Photograph on front cover and testimonal from George Forster Peabody on front flap. The notation "sixth edition" on the dust jacket is the only indication of the printing. Uncommon in this condition and in dj.
