Laid-in is ALS on Auerhahn letterhead to a collector from publisher Andrew Hoyem informing collector the title has sold out but which bookseller might still have mutiple copies.

Slight wear at top and bottom edges of backstrip, and some tip wear, very faint reddish marks on front and back of cover. Pages are in fine condition. § One of 200 copies, this being number 125, signed by Everson and Clough at colophon. A previously unpublished poem that is a "stern admonition to Adolf Hitler written in 1943" (from the prospectus). Illustrated with a full-page woodcut by Alison Clough.

Two of the volumes are one of 100 numbered deluxe copies and one is the hardback trade issue, of which there were only 300 copies. (There were also signed lettered copies and a trade paperback issue.) All three volumes bound in cloth-backed boards each with a different photographic image of Everson on front; printed spine labels; clear acetate dust jackets. Books designed by Black Sparrow's Barbara Martin. All are as new. VOLUME ONE (1997): THE RESIDUAL YEARS, POEMS 1934-1948, number 57 of 100 DELUXE COPIES. First edition. Poem written as a memorial tribute to Robinson Jeffers. One of 200 copies SIGNED BY ANTONINUS, of a total run of 205 [Bartlett & Campo A20]. Printed in two colors on Tovil hand-made paper and bound by Jane Grabhorn and Sally Hoyem in cream paper backed in crushed purple morocco with gilt-lettered paper label on spine. Near fine with spine slightly toned; in a good-only example of the plain white dust jacket with chips, tears, and general wear, as well as darkening to spine and edges, as usually seen. TOGETHER WITH 2 copies of COMMISSIONED POEMS 1962: Poetry Festival (The Poetry Center San Francisco State College, 1962) which prints 8 poems commissioned for the June 21-24, 1962, festival. Each is 8.5 x 11"; 16 pp; stapled into white covers printed in orange and black on front only. The first copy has cut-out window on front revealing the title printed on the next page (2nd does not). Includes Everson's "The Poet is Dead" as well as poems by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Jack Gilbert, Thom Gunn, Josephine Miles, Harold Witt, Muriel Rukeyser, and W. D. Snodgrass. First copy is worn and stained, especially on blank white rear cover, with ownership name at head of first page and date "1962." The second, which would appear to have been printed later, is slightly larger, bright and fine, and has letter from Beverly Dahlen, the secretary of The Poetry Center, to Marlan Beilke dated July 2, 1970, laid in. ALSO INCLUDED is San Francisco printer Julie Holcomb's scarce edition of the poem issued "in memory and celebration" in 1994 after Everson's own death. Approximately 5 x 10"; two folded leaves printed in black with title on first page in light blue; laid in stiff, gray paper cover deckled on front fore edge and printed in dark gray. Fine.

Broomfield [A64] notes 2 different issues of the spine stamping with the first being gilt and the second black but does not record this silver stamping. Designed by Graham Mackintosh. Printed at the Capra Press on Strathmore Art Laid paper. Half crimson calf over gray linen boards. Spine lettering rubbed and dulled and spine ends a bit worn on first volume (#128). Barely perceptible mark on spine of second volume (#207) which is otherwise quite bright and fine. Prospectus fine.

Number 124 of 200 copies SIGNED BY EVERSON AND CLOUGH, who supplied the full-page woodcut preceding the poem. Folio, quarter black morocco leather and cloth over boards; gilt stamped spine titling. Binding by The Schuberth Bookbindery, printed on hand-made English Tovil paper using an 1830 Acorn handpress and Weiss Roman and Italic typeface. The collector Allen K. Mears notes that Clough's first name is misspelled on the colophon. Two states of the prospectus laid in: one on the same paper and with same typeset as the published edition and 2 copies of a smaller one regularly printed on a thinner tan paper. Book and prospectuses fine.

The copier has picked up the occasional marginal notation or mark but there don't appear to be any hand-corrections to the text. Page 81 askew when copied cutting off bottom right. Otherwise, fine.
