Very clean, solid example, in original covers, with the full article and photos. . See Referemces below. . *** CONDITION: The set is bound in the original publisher's rose covered stitched covers, with reverse blind-stamped patterns. Entirely woodblock printed by hand on hand-made Washi [mulberry paper]. The impression and registry are excellent. . There is some of the usual, minor scuffing, edge wear and typical minor cover soil. The title slips are intact for the most part, there is some soil and usual wear, with a small piece missing from top left label of volumes 1, 3 & 5. Else the set is firmly stitch bound and solid. . The contents remain very clean, with excellent impression and registry. There are several small, discreet ownership stamps here and there, as expected for a book of this age. . The book belonged to a famous San Francisco Japanese art dealer and has their discreet name stamp inside the front cover upper right corner on each volume and on a few other upper corners in the margins. . There is substantial pencal marginalia & annotations throughout volumes 3-6, these are English translations of artists/artisans/Netsuke carvers/sword makers names & other comments. . These annotations are useful to those who do not read Japanese. A substiantial amount of worthy English translations. The are strictly found in the blank upper margins, therefore do not detract from images or or text, minimal impact. . By and large the contents are very clean, no stains. In volumes 5 & 7, there is a bit of old & very minor worming at the upper corner in the margins of a few leaves, neither text nor illustrations affected, else very clean and solid examples. . *** Please review the color photos posted to our website. . *** REFERENCES: .
