Softcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition; First Printing. 88 pages; Publisher's glazed wrappers, vivid design in black, blue, white and purple; with original unprinted mylar dust jacket. Minor rubbing and edge wear, with some chips and breaks to the mylar dust jacket. A handsome and influential survey -- edited and published by Sam Hunter [1923-2014], then Acting Director of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This catalogue follows MOMA's 1955 survey: "The New Decade" and introduces work not widely known in America, such as the CoBra group. The artists, each with a small photograph and short biography at the end, were: Alechinsky, Jorn, Davie, Hajek, Lanyon, Hilton, Damian, Haller, Serpan, Degottex, Marfaing, Cesar, Gaul, Schumacher, Platschek, Cimiotti, Millares, Thieler, Vedova, Turnbull, Kemeny, Moreni, Scanavino, Assetto, Pomodoro, Corneille, Tapies, Saura, Mueller, Chillida, Canogar, D'Haese, Paolozzi, Delahaye, and Consagra. Their work was grouped by nation or region, and put into perspective with longer articles by Sam Hunter's chosen group of critics: Lawrence Alloway, Umbro Apollonio, Friedrich Bayl, Juan-Eduardo Cirlot, and James Fitzsimmons. Exhibition held at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, September 23-October 25, 1959 and 6 other museums through October 16, 1960. A distinctive and influential catalogue. OCLC: 22375589.
