Softcover. Sixth Edition. Spiral bound. Black & illus. covers, [67 pp.], color plates. The sixth edition of a publication that was first released in 1913. The Fred Harvey Company "owned and managed restaurants, newsstands, and dining cars along the Atcheson, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad. In 1898 Harvey's son-in-law John Frederick Huckel [1863-1936] founded the Fred Harvey Indian Department, appointing Herman Schweizer as the department's manager. Nicknamed the 'Harvey anthropologist,' Schweizer collected important examples of Native American artifacts, arts, and crafts -- including Hopi kachina dolls and Navajo silver -- and sold them to museums and collectors. . The Harvey Company also marketed their goods and services to tourists who traveled west on the Santa Fe Railway, and helped to popularize the Southwest as a tourist destination." (Judith A. Barter, Window on the West: Chicago and the Art of the New Frontier, 1890-1940, p. 153.). VG- (Covers fairly good with no broken slots at plastic spiral though some show wear; interior is clean with vivid color plates.).
