Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. Hardback. 8vo.pp. 148. Rare collection from the lesser known child poet. Loosely inserted letters: from Helen in neatly written child's hand dated 2023, describing her hobby of collecting books "and I specially love those illustrated like 'The Midsummer Night's Dream' by Arthur Rackham. Although I have many lovely books, I do not possess any first additions written by famous authors." +2 letters from the Rev. William Adam, Helen's father, thanking an American publisher for the offer to print. One letter on headed paper of the United Free Church, Dundee. BOOK: Poetry. Author's first book published at the age of fourteen, with the poems written between the ages of four and twelve. A remarkable example of early 20th century children's literature from Scotland. Original publishers cloth binding in green, lettered Black. Black and white illustrations by Helen. Frontispiece Portrait photograph of a young and serious-looking Helen Douglas Adam. / Helen Douglas Adam (1909Ð1993) would become a name known as an air to Tennyson, rather as an adjacent figure to the Beat Poets of San Francisco. Having moved to America in the 1930s, she settled some years later in a literary community in which formal experimentation was often the poetic mode-de-jour. Her importance was realised in her inclusion Donald Allen's seminal collection 'The New American Poetry 1945Ð1960' after which she branched into other artistic mediums. About very good. Slight wear and slight rubbing and spotting. Signedes.
