Paperback. (Vol. 20, No. 5). Small 4to. Stiff glazed pictorial wrappers. 40pp. Illustrations. Very good. Very mild edgewear. Attractive copy of this twice-monthly religious advocacy publication, featuring essays, poetry, commentary, etc. Thomas Merton contributes "The Christian as Peacemaker" and I.F. Stone "End of the Russo-American 'Century'" to this issue -- which came from the private library of another contributor to this issue, Merton's friend JOHN BEECHER (1904-80), noted social protest poet and fine press publisher, whose poem "Bestride the Narrow World" appears here. (In this same year Beecher published "On Acquiring a Cistercian Breviary," a poem honoring his Trappist friend.) His wife, artist Barbara Beecher (b. 1925), neatly inks "Marked Copy -- Pg. 6 / (J.B.)" near the top of the front wrapper. A nice contributor's copy.
