Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Stated First Edition/Two Volume Set: Near Fine books in Very Good dust jackets. A well preserved set of this two volume account of life inside the Santo Tomas Internment Camp during the Japanese occupation of Manila and the Philippines. Most of the material in this set was written by the author while interned at Santo Tomas; he was instructed very early on to keep a record of what happened in and around the camp (and around the Philippines); what results is an extraordinary eyewitness account of life under Japanese rule. This set is in near fine condition with only light rubbing and soiling to the boards and exterior text block, some more advanced rubbing to the spine head of I and the spine foot of II, and a PO sticker to the front free paper of both volumes. Housed in clean and bright very good dust jackets that show moderate rubbing and chipping to the spine ends with a couple of short closed tears, and some light rubbing and chipping to the panel edges and corners. Housed in a moderately rubbed and wrinkled cardboard slipcase. Overall, a nice example of an uncommon set; an important addition to the World War II Pacific Theater collection. Not remaindered, not ex-library; in fresh Mylar covers and will ship well wrapped in a sturdy box.

Hardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. First Edition. Signed, without inscription, by author upon title page. Also signed and inscribed by author upon front free endpaper. xvi, 662 pages. Black and white reproductions of archival photos. "Except for the last few chapters, this entire work was written from day to day during the three years of the author's internment in Santo Tomas and is therefore to be considered as a prison document. The writing of any such record as this was forbidden by the Japanese under strong menace. In the end they destroyed their own records and those of the successive internee executive committees, but the author's voluminous typescript, carefully hidden away, was never found by them. Every story is based on interviews with numerous persons who participated in the events they talked about." - Foreword. No dust jacket. Unmarked with somewhat above-average wear to grey boards. Binding intact. Please note that we are offering volume one only of this important two volume chronicle. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Signed.
