Original publisher's white folio with the text and images printed on loose leaves. 8 1/2" x 11." Forty-one pages, complete. Black and white reprinted illustrations, complete. A beautiful copy. Folio and pages are very neat and clean. John Bartlett Goodman III (1901-1991) was an American art director and wrote a comprehensive encyclopedia (which was never published) on the 762 ships that traveled from the East Coast to California during the Gold Rush, titled, "California Gold Rush Fleet Encyclopedia of Vessels Sailing from the East Coast of the United States and Canada for San Francisco, December 7, 1848-December3, 1849." The encyclopedia described the histories of the vessels which were organized A-Z; The Key corresponds to the encyclopedia and is also in alphabetical order. The Key lists the ships' specifications charts and tables, such as where and when they were built, their masters, and what happened to them.
