Libro
Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 2nd Edition. "Wassilissa" is a German Translation of Henry Gréville's Novel, "Les Koumiassine". It was issued in Engelhorn's Allgemeine Roman-Bibliothek Series, and published by J Engelhorn in Stuttgart in 1884. The book consists of two volumes bound as one. It was first issued in 1884 by Engelhorn in two volumes, and then, in the same year in a single volume. This is the single volume edition. Henry Gréville was the pen name of Mrs. Alice Durand, nee Fleury, a French woman who married a law professor teaching in St. Petersburg. She met him there whilst studying languages and science. She was fairly prolific as an author, starting her literary career in Russia, and then continuing it upon her return to France with her husband. "Les Koumiassine" was first published in 1877 to favorable reviews. ************** Wassilissa. (Les Koumiassino). Roman in Zwei Bänden von Henry Gréville. Autoristierte Aeberseßung aus dem Franzosischen von Wilhelm Henckel. erste und zweite Band. Stuttgart. Verlag von J. Engelhorn. ************** SERIES : Engelhorn's allgemeine Roman Bibliothek, ( Volumes 5 & 6 bound together ). / TITLE : Wassilissa (les Koumiassine) - Two Volumes in One. / AUTHOR : Henry Gréville ( Mrs. Alice Durand, nee Fleury, 1842 - 1902). / TRANSLATOR : Wilhelm Henckel. / IMPRINT : J. Engelhorn. / PLACE : Stuttgart. / DATE : 1884. / EDITION : Not stated; Second Engelhorn Edition]. / LANGUAGE : German. ************* Trade hardcover; 173 + 180 pages (353 pages in all); approximately 4 1/2" x & 7" (12mo); decorated bright red cloth with title lettered in black on spine and title, etc. and decorative embellishments stamped in black on front board; all edges marbled, slate-green end-papers printed with publisher's list. *************** CONDITION : VERY GOOD This is a previously owned book which remains clean and attractive, with the following noted : This volume came from a long-defunct private library ( Utica Deutschen Leseverein ~ Utica German Reading Club). BOARDS : There was a catalog label on the front but it was removed and residual traces of the library glue can be discerned - this is hardly egregious (see picture) - there is mild overall surface rub - a few scattered small spots- a few smudges on the rear boards - modest edge wear - but basically bright clean and presentable. / SPINE : There were once paper catalog labels over the spine, and residual traces of the glue from those labels is discernible. The aforementioned clear glue residue (appears shiny but clean) - extremities display modest fraying, most noticeably at foot - color a bit dulled and rubbed. / HINGES / BINDING : Solid - no leaves are detached or loose. / PAGE EDGES : Toned - but clean (top edge is darkened). / END PAPERS : A bit toned and weathered along edges, else clean- bookplate of the library affixed to top of front paste-down: Eigenthum von Utica Deutschen Leseverein -No. 2086 [number written in pencil]. / INTERIOR : The library placed unobtrusive stamps on both title-pages (and possibly elsewhere in the volume, though I did not spot any) - else clean and presentable with near-negligible signs of use. DUST-JACKET : None issued. An attractive specimen of an edition that is seldom found on the market today. This is not a modern reprint.
