The pamphlet- 'The Vatican Decrees in their bearing on Civil Allegiance: A Political Expostulation', by WE Gladstone.' (Murray 1874, pp32.) 2.A Letter Addressed to His Grace The Duke of Norfolk on Occasion of Mr. Gladstone's Recent Expostulation', by JH Newman (pub by Pickering 1875 pp 131) 3. 'The Vatican Decrees in their bearing on Civil Allegiance', by Henry Edward (Manning) Archbishop of Westminster.(Longmans 1875, pp192).4. 'Vaticanism: An Answer to Replies and Reproofs', by WE Gladstone. (John Murray 1875, pp 128.). Soundly bound in a late victorian rebacked cloth binding with red leather spine label lettered gilt. Slight rubbing o/w clean VG with clean text. Loosely inserted is a rare Pickering ephemera - a one page illustrated flyer for their 1875 children's religious book 'The Church Catechism - with Pictures and Explanations.'.
