First edition, first printing. Publisher's original dark blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine and upper board. Gilt top edge. In dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout with black and white plates. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm, the text block edges a little spotted. The contents, a little foxed to the prelims, are otherwise clean throughout and free of previous owners' stamps and inscriptions. In the original dustwrapper, which has is a little rubbed and shows a few closed tears. Uncommon in the dustwrapper. A comprehensive biography and illustrated catalogue of the works of George Baxter, an English artist who is credited with inventing a commercially viable method of colour printing. Black and white plates facing pages 153 and 259 are loose but present. All plates are present. With fifteen colour plates and thirty one black and white plates.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, worn with marks to the boards and spine and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Some pages are loose. The colour frontispiece first plate, plate to face pages 168, 240, 243, 244 and 289 are loose but present. Black and white plates facing pages 153 and 259 are loose but present.
