Hardcover. Condición: Good. No Jacket. Small ex-library hardback, with all the usual library marks, stamps, etc. This discarded library book has had the pocket torn off the inside of the back board. 198 pages have a major amount of tanning, browning, foxing throughout but the book is in amazing shape for its age. Frontis picture of Ruth gleaning with a tissue overlay. Dark moss green embossed boards front and back have a moderate amount of edgewear, bumped corners and small chips & tears at the upper and lower spine edges. Gold gilt lettering and embellishment design on the spine edge. The title that is listed above is what is on the title page. On the spine it states Ruth & Samuel Vol 6 Gallaudet's Biography. Ruth's story ends on page 46. Samuel's story starts after that and has the year 1840 on the copyright page with a frontis picture of Samuel presented to Eli by his mother (no tissue). Samuel's story runs to the end on page 198.

Cloth. Condición: Good. No Jacket. The covers and spine have edge wear with scuffing in places, are rubbed and have soiling. The endpapers are soiled and foxed, the ffe has three names written on it and one is dated 1897. There is a 3/4 X 1/2 inch stain on the ffe that is on each page to the preface page and on the second ffe there is a hole in the middle of the stain. There is foxing throughout the book and several pages were dog earred. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

Gallaudet was the principle of the American Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb, the oldest such school in the United States. His son Edward Miner Gallaudet, co-founded the first college for deaf students, Gallaudet University. This little book includes an interesting mix of natural history, scientific, and theological discussions, written for young people. Includes an engraving depicting the sign language alphabet. Boards worn and corners trimmed; leather spine split. Last 20 pages loose, and last several pages missing (was originally 231 pages). Fair.
