Likely rental library copy with date stamps on rear free endpaper, dampstained and foxed cloth, edge foxing and stains, light tone, owner's signature, otherwise light wear; Dust Jacket missing most of rear panel, chipping at corners and spine tail, foxing, wear. Solid hardcover. ; Delightful humorous memoir, with Peggy Bacon illustrations. "A loving, if irreverent portrait of a Canadian woman who became a thorough-going New Englander by marriage and adoption -- written by her son. After an unheardof fling of independence in nursing, she married a New Englander, and this is a kaleidoscopic story of her life in Massachusetts, town and country, her efforts to combat smoking and drinking -- and how gracefully she was worsted; her pioneering in motor cars, her strictly Republican political leanings and her campaigning, her religious problems, her projects for doing the house over in spite of the family, her skirmishes with Aunt Abby on spending money, gadgets, etc., her trips, her place in all family affairs. Then again a venture into nursing, with the establishment of a nursing home and the excitement it entailed. Her idolatry of Lindbergh -- and her indignation and right-about-face when he went isolationist. Her militant interventionism -- and her delight when the president and the country followed her lead. Pleasant reading -- and a change, for most books in this vein have been books about fathers ." - Kirkus Reviews.; Ex-Library.

Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good+. Pale sage-green cloth stamped in blue. Illustrated endpapers. Interior is clean and unmarked. Acid shadow on rear endpapers and rear flap of jacket. Illustrations on 17 two-page spreads and at chapter heads. Dust jacket spine slightly darkened; a couple small marks on the front flap; not price clipped ($2.50); in an archival mylar sleeve. 260 pages. An attractive copy of a scarce title, featuring illustrations by Russian-born Anatol ''Akov'' Kovarsky (1919-2016), best known for his work for The New Yorker, which included more than 300 cartoons and 40 cover illustrations for the magazine. My Yankee Paris, published in 1945, precedes his work for The New Yorker, but follows his service in the Army during the Second World War. Although trained as a topographic draftsman, he was assigned as a cartoonist and accompanied American troops from Normandy to Paris; his work appeared in the pages of Stars and Stripes, Yank, and Army Talks. The book is a humorous account of an American soldier's experiences with the French and their culture, from Normandy to a Paris full of American G.I.'s following its liberation in August 1944. Written by a friend of Kovarsky's, Herbert Eliot French (1912-1991), who served as a Captain in the Army's Historical Section in Europe.
