Book also covers the 1873 Yellowstone and 1874 Black Hills Expeditions. Includes letters from his wife written just after the Little Big Horn in 1876, plus from Benteen and Godfrey about Reno's proposal to abandon the wounded 7th Cavalrymen on eve of June 25, 1876. Also included is much of Marcus Reno's own narrative of the Little Big Horn battle - which was found in his persoal effects after his death. An important Custeriana collectible.

The story of Charles Windolph who saw action under Custer's command, and was a recipient of the Medal of Honor. Windolph was still alive in 1946 and was interviewed by the Hunts. He died in 1950 at the age of 98. The first part of this book is Windolph's story. The second part of the book contains documents, official reports, letters, and eye-witness accounts of those who were there. Inscription recipient's bookplate and name stamp on front pastedown sheet, tiny "ding" to bottom edge of front cover, newspaper clippings and booklet affixed to rear endpapers plus an inked sentiment regarding Custer and his competence as a military commander, else a very good internally clean copy in dust jacket with a bit of old cellophane tape reinforcement to the verso, light wear to the spine ends and a few small chips, nicks, and closed tears to the extremities.
