254pp. Large 12mo. Light green cloth decorated with a black border and black lettering on the spine. Some rubbing along the edges of the boards. Very minor soiling near the head of the spine on the front board, as well as some slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Top edge of text block a bit darkened by dust. The illustrated dust jacket has been price clipped and has some edge wear with several closed tears and chipping. The jacket has some light soiling to the back panel and along the edges. Back free endpaper missing. Overall, a very good copy of a scarce book. Translated from the French by E. Ibettson James, this novel tells the story of a love triangle involving two vastly different men and a wayward woman. More commonly known by its French title "La Chienne" ("The Bitch"), which was made into a film twice, first by Jean Renoir and later by Fritz Lang with the title "Scarlet Street". This novel is incredibly scarce, especially the English translation with a dust jacket.
