Best known for his comedic style, the eighteenth century thespian played the central protagonist Zachary Fungus in the first performances of this play. With a stamp to the verso of the front cover from the College of Librarianship of Wales. With a page of publisher's adverts to the rear. Disbound. Externally, sound, with some moderate foxing to the front and the rear. With a little calf remaining to the spine. Internally, the binding is weak. The text block is divided into three main clusters, from the opening to page 32, from page 33 to page 48, and from page 49 to 67. Aside from the outer pages to each of the aforementioned clusters which are a little foxed, pages are bright and generally clean. Good. book.

Handsome edition bound in full tree calf with an intriguing pelican device on the spine labels. Full tree calf; old repairs to the outer hinges (not affecting the endpapers). Pelican device framing the green spine labels relating to an unidentified family - ownership inscription of 'W M Newton' (?) on the front pastedown.
