Also includes Farragut's official orders both before and after the Battles of 5 August and 12 August. 2 faint circular wet glass stains on the front cover else VG. Gives the Federal side of the Battle. Does NOT include any Confederate reports of this epochal battle below Mobile, Alabama.

First edition. 8vo. (2), 107 pp. Illustrated with two chromolithographic plates and three folding maps. With the ownership signature, dated in the year of publication, of J. Winthrop Taylor (1817-1880), Surgeon-General of the U.S. Navy in the 1870s; Taylor was surgeon aboard the "Pensacola," 1861-1863, and "saw much of the arduous service connected with the capture of New Orleans under Farragut and the regaining of Naval control of the Mississippi River by the Union forces" ("J. Winthrop Taylor, Surgeon General of the Navy," in Military Medicine, Vol. 91, No. 1, July, 1942). Very good copy, with a nice naval association, owned by a participant in the actions described. Original gilt-stamped brown cloth. (10087).
