Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. This is "The Perry Magazine" , Volume IV, Number 8, April 1902. This monthly periodical focused on art and literature, with a smattering of current affairs. As it states on the cover it was designed to be appropriate for both school and home. A goodly part of this particular issue is given over to art - classical and Pre - Raphaelite (Dürer, Ford Madox Brown, Holman Hunt, Burne Jones), as well as artists more contemporary with the magazine: in this issue there is a sizeable article, with illustrations, on Bastien - LePage, focusing on his magnificent painting, "Jeanne D'Arc". The magazine focuses on art, but for those who are interested in history there is an article on General William Tecumseh Sherman, and his March through Georgia during the Civil War. There is also a photograph of General Johnson from the same time period. There is considerably more, including a poem by James Russell Lowell. (Please scroll down to read the Table of Contents or view the complete Table in the picture provided ) ****************************************************** TABLE OF CONTENTS: Albrecht Dürer . by Irene Weir / My Portrait Gallery . a poem by James Russell Lowell / Good Friday in Menton . by Dorothy Lord Maltby / Great Artists and Their Paintings . by Marie A. Moore / Bastien - LePage and his "Jeanne D'Arc" . by Ruth Edwards / The Sunshine Journeying of One Picture . by Cynthia Westover Alden / The Lion in Art . by Louise Lincoln Newell / With Sherman in his "On To Atlanta" Campaign . by Wilbur F. Gordy / Bird Study in the Schools, Part II . by Arthur C. Royden / Art and History Stories, Part VII . by Carrie S. Williams ***************************************************** ILLUSTRATIONS : / Paul Revere Statue / The Faraglioni, Near Capri, Italy . A. Leu / Altar Copy of Feast of the Rose Garlands . Dürer / Adoration of the Trinity . Dürer / Maximilian I . Dürer / Saints john and Peter .Dürer / Saints Paul and Mark . Dürer / Illustrations : Great Artists and Their Paintings: / Christ Washing Peter's Feet . Ford Madox Brown / Finding of Christ in the Temple . Holman Hunt / The Star of Bethlehem . Burne - Jones / "Jeanne D'Arc". Bastien LePage / William Tecumseh Sherman . Halftone from a Photograph / Joseph E. Johnson . Halftone from a Photograph / Illustrations : "Art and History Stories": / Battle of Lexington ***************************************************** TITLE : The Perry Magazine - For School and Home / ISSUE : Vol. IV, No. 8 / DATE : April 1902 / EDITOR : Eugene Ashton Perry / IMPRINT : The Perry Pictures Company / PLACE : Boston Massachusetts / PHYSICAL DETAILS : Illustrated Monthly Periodical; Volume pagination, pp 297 - 340, plus iv pages of back material (advertising); 7" x 10"; pictorial wraps, stapled and glued. The cover pictures a photograph of a statue of Paul Revere **************************************************** CONDITION - VERY GOOD - This antique periodical was previously owned, but remains clean, complete, intact, and attractive, with the following imperfections and particulars noted: EXTERIOR - There is a small edge stain with a tide line that displays at the center of the fore-edge, front and back (this extends through the issue in diminishing effect as one pages toward the center of the issue . in full effect this is not so egregious) - The spine has splitting and weathering, with loss at the extremities; surface rub and general weathering is moderate; there are soft bumps to the corner tips, and small loss to the bottom front fore-edge tip; on the rear cover, at the fore-edge is a patch of surface loss (to my eye this looks like a bit of book worm foraging)- else the issue is clean and displays nicely. / BINDING - Holding . Seems solid enough - there are no detached or loose leaves INTERIOR - The small edge stain aforementioned, else basically clean and presentable throughout. No writing or marking.
