Bernard Nieuwentyt was an eminent Dutch mathematician and the book is translated from the low Dutch by John Chamberlayne a fellow of the Royal Society. The plates in Volume I are mostly anatomical with some scientific experiments, the rest are mainly illustrations of experiments There are fold out plates of the human body tri plate. Note a repair to hinge of one plate folding else very good. this is a famous late 17th century early 18th century Dutch philosopher and theological whose fascination with science led him to a teleological argument for the existence of God and pre dates the fabulous later thinkers along those lines. Freshly and finely bound by Alan Grace of Sussex UK in fine dark 1/2 English calf and marbled boards, internally very good. a handsome set. with maroon gilt calk skin title labels on spine with raised bands.
