Original paper-backed publisher's boards. xix+108 pp., deckle-edged. Paper very crisp and clean although upper board detached with f.e.p. and title page, else in very good condition, no loss, clean and tight. Coy inscription to title page reads "From Mrs blank Loughborough, June 11 1829 to ." Fourteen page (i-xiv) preface by the Author (D. Foe - 'Daniel Defoe') of The Review. "A Royal Witness to the Dissenters' Cause" and "The Contents of the Principal Things contained in this Book" (pp15-19) De Laune's Plea for Non-Conformists pp. 1 - 95: Eikoon tou therou or "The Image of the Beast" by T[homas] D[Laune]. This last part follows earlier pagination but dated 1816.

This copy has Benjamin Calamy's sermon "Of A Scrupulous Conscience", 27 pp., added at front, preceding the title page. 27, 16, vi, 144 (ie 134). Pages 130-134 misnumbered 140-144. Includes 6 pages contents and erratum and appended works with special title page: (1) Eikoon tou therou : Or, The image of the beast; Shewing by a parellel scheme, what a conformist the Church of Rome is to the pagan . (2) A narrative of the sufferings of Thomas De Laune for writing, printing and publishing a late book, called A plea for the Non-conformists . Directed to Dr. Calamy, in obedience to whose call, that work was undertaken .16 page Preface by the author of the Review: D. Foe (i.e. Daniel De Foe). This copy in an early 19th century binding, with text block trimmed at top, not affecting any text. Owner's name ffep, handwritten title to Calamy's Sermon on one of several front blank endpapers, binding tight. Covers show edge wear, rear leather hinge starting to crack. Book condition VG-. Binding: HB.

[2], 12, [2], 140pp. Contemporary mottled calf over boards. Contemporary owner's name in ink name on front free endpaper. Some darkening and modest wear to the edges of the boards, endpapers are modestly toned with some ink markings on back free endpaper, early light dampstain on text pages at the fore-edge and upper right corner margin, else a good or better copy overall. First published in 1684, with Defoe's preface first appearing in the 1706 edition. A scarce copy of the 1712 edition in the original calf binding. *OCLC* locates ten copies. *ESTC* N20028.
