Some pages within text blocks stained around edges. Includes frontispieces and infrequent facsimiles of letters by Burney. Light marginalia and markings. A scarce and complete set of the private life of Frances Burney (1752-1840), later known as Madame D Arblay. Portraits and numerous plates, including 48 half-tone plates, two double-page, 3 folding facsimiles, maps and plans and facsimiles to the text are distributed throughout the six volumes. She achieved fame for her novels Evelina (1778) and Cecilia (1782). .Burney's third novel Burney maintained a friendship with Hester Piozzi and was appointed keeper of the robes to Queen Charlotte. She later married a penniless French Catholic refugee and moved to France to attempt to reacquire the D'Arblay estates.
