See his entry in the Oxford DNB. 1p, 12mo. In good condition, slightly discoloured, with traces of grey paper mount adhering to the blank reverse. Folded once for postage. The year is not given, but the water mark appears to read [18]21 . Good clear signature. Fielding writes: My Dear Madam, / I shall have much pleasure in shewing you the pictures which I have prepared for the Exhibition, should it be agreeable to Mrs. Sharp & yourself to come to Newman at any hour on Monday or Tuesday next, & I hope you will do me the favour of persuading Mr Sharp to accompany you. / I remain, My Dear Madam, / Yours very faithful Servant / Copley Fielding .

Centre third of spine containing title, author and vol. no. intact.Title text clean with none of the gilding missing. However, the lower and upper thirds of the spine leather are detatched and missing. Original brown full leather cover. Retains much of the original gilt border and all of the intricaqte blind stamping on front and rear cover. Marbled covers and end papers. Internally it is complete, nice and tight. Full page engraved frontispiece "Melrose" drawn JMW Turner RA, engraved W. Miller. Title piece engraving "Newark Castle" drawn JMW Turner RA engraved by W J Cooke. Both clean with no marking. Page 51 full page engraving "Branksome Tower" drawn D Copley Fielding, engraved W. Radclyffe. Page 79 Full page engraving "Melrose" Drawn G. Barret, engraved J. McGahey. Page 205 full page engraving "Rostin and Hawthornden" drawn JMW Turner RA, engraved by W.R. Smith. Last 3 engravings mentioned have some foxing and spotting mainly to margins very rather than the engraved area. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Book.

Contains engraved title, and 41 full-page single-sided engravings all with tissue-guards and each with a short description. Two works of illustrations associated with the writing of Scottish novelist Sir Walter Scott, bound in four volumes.Each work contains illustrated plates accompanied by descriptive passages and an explanation of the subject's connection to Scott's work.The first work present, bound in three volumes and dated 1832-1833, are 'Landscape Illustrations of the Waverley Novels', with the third volume dedicated to portraits of the female characters of the Waverley novels. Collated, with thirty-four plates to volume I, with four absent. With thirty-six plates to volume II, with six missing. With thirty-nine plates to volume III, and one plate absent.The second work present consists of illustrations related to Scott's poetical works, in the scarce first edition of 1834. with forty plates from numerous artists, including Augustus Pugin and J. M. W. Turner. Collated, complete.With the armorial bookplate of Edward Moore to the front pastedowns. In the original half calf bindings with paper covered boards. Extensive rubbing to spine heads and tails, with bumping to extremities. Some rubbing to each joint, most concentrated to volume III. Bookplate to each front pastedown. Front endpapers absent to volumes II and III, with tears to rear endpapers of volume I and III. Front and rear hinges starting but holding firm to each volume. Internally, generally firmly bound. Some spotting to each volumes, most concentrated to plate perimeters. Good. book.
