Roberts Brothers, Boston, 1874, 1892, 244 pages, 12 pages of book ads in back with nearly full page b&w illustrations for most of them, b&w illustrations by Addie Ledyard, 5.25"x 7", hardcover, mustard cloth with gilt and brown titles and brown daisy illustration across front and spine, covers have overall soil, corners a bit worn, some light chipping on rear cover, a 1/4" dent with tear top edge front cover, internal hinges have been neatly reglued and are holding very well, 1/2" damp stain along fore-edge of first 4 pages only, PAGE 15/16 MISSING, some pages have short tears, light soil in margins or are dog-eared but overall the contents are clean and tight, book good- (Despite it's faults this is a very good reading copy. The other stories in the book are: Ricket's Valentine, Nanny's Substitute, How the Umbrella Ran Away with Ellie, Little Roger's Night in Church, World Within the Wall, On top of the Ark, Girls of the Far North which is sketches about: Jenny Lind, Fredika Bremer, Lotten Vennberg, Jeanette Berglind, Miss Berg, Sara Albertina Mansdotter and Maria Magdalena Mattsdotter.) Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Hardcover. Bound in red cloth with gold lettering and black decoration. Binding good and tight with some normal fading to the cloth and light rubbing to crown and foot of spine, corners. Bookplate on the inside front cover with the name "Harriet Lyman Stevens." Title page dated 1872. Copyright page dated 1871. Ownership name on the first blank page dated 1872. 231 pages. Written by Sarah Chauncey Woolsey under the pen name Susan Coolidge. She is best known for the Katy books (5 of them) but this was her first book. It was edited by Louisa May Alcott, although her name doesn't appear in the book. This is a nice clean copy. A single page of ads at the front for Robert Brothers book for the 1871-1872 Holiday Season. Please email with questions or to request photos.
