Enjuiciado sumariamente en pocas horas, fue condenado a morir ahorcado. La pena fue extremadamente severa: ninguno de los crímenes por los cuales fue acusado -sacrilegio, blasfemia e intento de suicidio- se solían castigar con la pena de muerte.
