INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO THE HEAD OF THE US NAVY'S SUBMARINE FORCE. Clark has inscribed the book to Hebert G. Sparrow, the chief of staff for the Navy's submarine fleet in World War One as well as the commander of the USS Chicago, the submarine fleet's headquarters. Memoirs of Admiral Clark (1843-1922). He saw combat in the Civil War and the Spanish-American War. In the latter conflict, Clark led the American fleet in the battle which utterly defeated the Spanish Navy off the coast of Cuba.
