Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. First reprint of an edition originally published in 1936 by Whittlesey House. 7.25" x 9.25" hardcover book in black cloth boards with silver titling to front and spine. No dustjacket. 307pp illustrated in black and white. Clean and unmarked. Book in protective mylar covering. Corners sharp, tiny bit of rubbing to rear and traces of wear to silver titling which remains very bright. Binding sound if rather limber, especially at first signature. Rectangular sticker ghost to front free endpaper, quite subtle. Page interiors bright, a modicum of age-toning to page block. Overall very good condition of this early attempt to define and lay out the aesthetic principles and historical significance of the rise of industrial design.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. Seminal early consideration of Machine Age design and architecture in America, tracking the rise of the industrial design profession, published by Whittlesey House in 1936. Hardcover, 8vo, 307 pages replete with black-and-white illustrations. Chapters include "Industrial Design Emerges," "Backgrounds in Art and in Industry," "Handicraft and the Machine," and "The Streamline as Symbol." Featuring work by Raymond Loewy, Margaret Bourke-White, William Lescaze, Frederick Kiesler, Norman Bel Geddes, Henry Dreyfuss, Walter Dorwin Teague, Gilbert Rohde, Kem Weber, Kurt Versen, Donald Deskey, Lurelle Guild, Richard Neutra, Albert Frey, and George Sakier. A must-have for scholars and collectors interested in the period. Prescient in its curation of designers and designs, it reads like a museum catalog done much later. With a deco woodblock bookplate from Charlotte Spaltheholz, a German-born artist and educator who emigrated to California in the early 1920's. Light bumping and rubbing to spine. Mild mottling to rear board. Notwithstanding, one of the finest copies of this title I've seen. Without dust jacket, as issued. Now in a clear mylar protective cover.
