Hardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Poor dj. First American Edition. [book shows some discoloration (browning) to cloth, moderate shelfwear, gift inscription (non-authorial) on ffep; the jacket is a real mess, primarily due to a large piece missing from the top of the front panel, although there are plenty of other small tears and chips, some laminate puckering/peeling, etc. -- all in all, not a pretty sight, sorry]. (B&W photographs) "The picture diary of one of today's most brilliant roving photographers, Henri Cartier-Bresson, who lived in China from December 1948 to September 1949. In those eventful and often dangerous months he watched from close at hand the withdrawal of the Nationalist government and the inrush of the Communist armies. He caught these events on the fly and came back from China with an unbiased graphic document of enduring historical interest." The author of the text, novelist Han Suyin, "prefaces the book with a sensitive evaluation of the 'Chinese experiment' [and] points to the differences between the two eras and infers what course China's evolution may take.".

First edition. Hardcover. Features text by Han Suyin. A collection of 144 gravure photographs taken during Cartier-Bresson's travels in China between 1948-1949. A very good copy in cloth boards with some slight splitting to the internal front hinge and in a very good dust jacket with a two inch tear to the top of the spine with an associated crease to the rear panel and with some other smaller tears and chips and wear. Still, a pleasing copy of an underappreciated body of work from the master photographer behind the iconic books "The Decisive Moment" and "The Europeans.".
