Boards rubbed and stained, corners and spine ends bumped, head of spine frayed exposing binding, spine browned, small spot stains to foot of closed reading edges, ink notation marks to margins on some pages, small spot stains to foot of some pages otherwise pp clean, text clear to read, pp secure in binding. Size: 16mo.

First Edition. 16mo. original beige cloth (cloth extensively strengthened with black gaffer tape, endpapers and fore-edge a little thumbed); pp. iv, 206, with diagrams & photos. A good reading copy of an uncommon and sought after guide recording the first ascents of many classic lines, including London Wall, Great Slab, Quietus etc. [Neate Q141]. The copy belonged to 60s gritstone hard man Pat Fearnehough, with his name and drawing of ice axe to FFE, and occasional comments and additions in text ('Jankers Groove - Super Direct. - D.D.Whillans. Instead of traversing to the right from Jankers Crack, ascend the bulge directly beow the groove on jammed fists / Severe if you can do it') . Fearnehough died on expedition to Latok II in 1978. Frontispiece showing Peter Biven on the hand traverse of Quitus - Stanage -High Neb on the first ascent.using a top rope. Later, Joe Brown led the climb. The book is illustrated with photographs plus diagrams of outcrops. No entrie or routes ticked off. Good clean tight-bound volume. A.W. Bridge who was a climbing partner of Colin Kirkus writes a preface to the volume and the introduction is by Eric Byne. Scarce.
