Limited. Lithograph. Image measures 12 1/8" x 18 5/16". Sheet measures 21" x 27 1/4". Plate X. Rather than a typical three-quarter view, this somewhat bizarre lithograph depicts the Sphinx from an almost full-frontal perspective. Published in 1887, the print dramatically highlights the monument's features with white in order to indicate the extent of the damage they have sustained over time. This print is from a limited edition of Binion's "Ancient Egypt or Mizraim," Vol. II, considered a landmark of American chromolithography. This print is in very good condition with very minimal wear to the background. Some stains and fingerprints are limited to the outside margins, where they do not affect the quality of the image. Samuel Augustus Binion (1853-1914) was a Polish author, traveler, and translator. With "Ancient Egypt," he sought to present Egyptian history, art, and architecture in a thorough manner. He intended the size of the work to be sumptuous enough to allow for the faithful depiction of buildings, ornamentation, hieroglyphics, and decorations in their original colors, yet still manageable for use in both private and public libraries.

Published in 1887, the print illustrates the intricate designwork executed on the tomb's facade. This print is from a limited edition of Binion's "Ancient Egypt or Mizraim," Vol. II, considered a landmark of American chromolithography. Limited. Color lithograph. Image measures 19" x 12". Sheet measures 21" x 27 1/4". Plate XXX. This fascinating color lithograph contains a depiction of a funeral ritual from what is commonly referred to as the "Book of the Dead," a papyrus roll of prayers and incantations which the Egyptians buried with their mummies. Published in 1887, the print accurately portrays a real copy of this scroll, held in the collection of the Museum of Leiden. This print is from a limited edition of Binion's "Ancient Egypt or Mizraim," Vol. II, which is considered a landmark of American chromolithography. This print is vividly colored and in very good condition, chip to lower margin, comes with descriptive sheet. Samuel Augustus Binion (1853-1914) was a Polish author, traveler, and translator. The two largest figures facing the left are Prince Merab and his mother. In the middle of the print are a number of stands, and on the right a scene of Prince Merab with his servants. Condición: very good. Limited. Color lithograph. Image measures 12" x 18". Sheet measures 21" x 27 1/4". Plate XII. This color lithograph depicts the Ethiopian pyramids located on the western side of Mount Barkal. Published in 1887, the scene clearly demonstrates the vast difference in architectural style between these Ethiopian pyramids and their more famous Egyptian brethren, the former being taller, narrower, and steeper in slope than the latter. A hazy green sky floats above the small pyramids and the even smaller travelers who approach them via a circuitous path which leads away from the rocky landscape in the foreground. This print is from a limited edition of Binion's "Ancient Egypt or Mizraim," Vol. II, considered a landmark of American chromolithography. This print image itself is in very good condition except for very minor foxing in the sky and a tiny loss just below and left of center. There is a tear extending up from the bottom edge of the sheet, but it does not interfere with the image. Samuel Augustus Binion (1853-1914) was a Polish author, traveler, and translator. Condición: very good. Color lithograph. Image measures 12" x 18". Sheet measures 21" x 27 1/4". Plate IV. This beautiful color lithograph provides a southern view of the Great Pyramids in Gizeh. Published in 1887, the image situates the three largest monuments along the horizon line such that they divide the orange desert landscape from the hazy green sky. A gathering of three cloaked shepherds to the right of the composition echoes the pyramids' iconic triangular form, yet it is clear from the vast expanse of implied space between that the pyramids tower above them. This print is from a limited edition of Binion's "Ancient Egypt or Mizraim," Vol. II, considered a landmark of American chromolithography. This print image itself is in very good condition except for very minor foxing in the sky and discoloration at the right margin.
