An account of early steamship travel from the East Coast to the West, compiled from early diaries, newspapers, and the log of the California. On February 28, 1849, the first regular steamboat service to California was inaugurated by the arrival of the Pacific Mail's steamship, California. This work is the first authentic account of the California's journey and contains the only accurate list of passengers. [Kurutz: 51].
