Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. viii & 61 pages; Publisher's tan cloth, front cover and spine lettered in white (in Roman letters). A clean copy. There is a typewritten slip mounted with clear tape to the front free endpaper: "This Book is Evidence in the Case Entitled / Rudolf Weiler, WAS / ESPIONAGE* G / BUREAU FILE 100-41401 / Do not damage or destroy." The same free endpaper is signed "Rudolf Weiler" in ink at the head. Also stamped across this leaf, partially affecting the typewritten slip is the red ink Library of Congress Surplus-Duplicate stamp. [Printed books and pamphlets from various Government properties and agencies was routed through the Library of Congress for de-accessioning. We cannot explain why this standard volume on the sulfite process for turning wood into pulp for papermaking might have been evidence in an espionage case. The chemical sulfite process was relatively mature technology, having been commercially developed in Sweden back in the 1890's. As it happened, an alternate process, the Kraft process would largely supercede the sulfite process for commercial purposes. Text in German, several photographic illustrations in b/w halftones.
