Softcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. Very Good First Edition 12mo 8" x 5 1/2" white glossy pictorial softcover featuring two different black-and-white photographs of Bram van Velde to front and back, green, gray, and black lettering to front, back, and spine, minor sunning, light wear and foxing to bottom edge, 1/4" chip in glossy layer near head of spine, otherwise sharp tips, tightly bound, and unmarked throughout. [8] 64 pp., replete with full-color and black-and-white images, essay by Samuel Beckett from 1949, extract from French art magazine "Derriere la Miroir" by Georges Duthuit from 1952, essay by Jacques Putman from 1958, Biography, and Bibliography. From back panel: "This is Evergreen Gallery book number five in a series of art books devoted to contemporary painters and sculptors, both American and foreign. Each work, perceptively presented by a leading authority, is richly illustrated. The color, in which color seems afloat in a fluid, frameless space, comprise a major part of Van Velde's limited output. Through them we can trace the evolution of an artist whose singularity of purpose has always made him something of an enigma to his contemporaries." Heavy and oversized items may require additional shipping.

Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. [Date from the copyright page.] First American Edition: Evergreen Gallery Book No. 5 (E-174). Translated by Samuel Beckett and Olive Classe. Frontispiece plus eight black-and-white illustrations; twelve mounted color plates; 64 pages. The original glossy photographic wraps are in very good shape, with just slight wear and discoloration from age; however, there is one small tear in the rear cover. Lettering is clear on the covers and on the uncreased spine. [Please see my five images of the actual book.] The interior is crisp and clean throughout, with only slight wrinkling of later page tops, from attaching the original plates. All color plates (printed in France) remain bright. "Is [Bram van Velde's] painting representational or not? I don t understand the question."---from somewhere in the middle of Putman's essay, page 41. NOTE: This slim paperback can be shipped free if purchased with another book. [My father had several dozen Beckett titles; others are still being listed.] As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking.
