Cloth. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. Reid-Henry, D.M. Ilustrador. First. xlviii, 207pp., ill., colour plates, maps, folding map. VG, in slightly edge-frayed and soiled DJ, which also has a label scar to the front flap. Folding map slightly rumpled, and some dust-soiling to page edges; interior clean, binding sound, overall lovely copy. Volume Two of the eventual four-volume work. "In this, the second volume of Dr. Bannerman's study of the birds of the Atlantic Islands, the author describes the birds of Madeira and the adjoining islands. It has been his aim to bring together in one volume all that is known about the bird life of the islands of the Madeira group, not only the large ones, famous as breeding grounds of petrels and shearwaters, but of the smaller islands as well. In addition to his own first-hand observations, the author makes full use of earlier data collected by German, French, Portuguese, American and British ornithologists and this is in fact the first time all the available information on the subject has been published in one book. A feature of the book is an account of the topography of Madeira and Porto Santo, with detailed descriptions of the climate, vegetation, and geological formation." Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
