Condición: Good. 1939. First Edition Thus. 798 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth. Contains black and white photographic frontispiece, with other plates throughout. Pages are mildly tanned, but text remains clear. Plates are bright. Mild marking to some pages throughout; text is not obscured. Binding is firm. Pencil inscriptions to front free endpaper. Boards and spine have minimal shelf-wear, with mild corner bumping and crushing to ends. Spine and edges are slightly tanned. Visible marks overall, including pencil scribbles. Book has a slight forward lean.

No Jacket. 1st ed. f/piece+798 pp., 30 further ills inc 17 plates ex-pagination collated as present, top edge green tinted; internally clean and unmarked bar trace of old erased pencilled price to front endpaper, gutters good but textblock feels just a little shaken, unsurprisingly given size, covers clean bar a few tiny white flecks to front, minimally worn, spine a trifle faded. Scarce. Comprehensive in coverage indeed, from marriage and contraception via pregnancy to child health, education, child-rearing, careers advice and 'behavioural problems', all tackled by qualified professionals, though no really 'big names'. An excellent panoramic shot of middle-class British domestic ideals in the mid-1930s.
