Cloth. Condición: Good. 191 pp. Tightly bound. Top corners lightly bumped. Text is free of markings. No ownership markings. Good dust jacket is chipped at the head / heel of the spine. Light foxing top fore-edge. There is light tanning to light blue cloth at head / heel of spine. A good, clean reading copy free of markings. This copy is smyth sewn. Smyth sewing is a method of book binding where groups of folded pages (referred to as signatures) are stitched together using binder thread. Each folded signature is sewn together individually with multiple stitches and then joined with other signatures to create the complete book block. This is the traditional and best method of bookbinding.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Hardcover 1st edition published in Great Britain by John Long. Black cloth covered boards contrasted by gold gilt spine lettering. VG condition without a dust jacket. The covers are in great shape with nice sharp corners though the spine ends are indented. The binding is square and tight. Former owner's bookplate is fixed to the front paste-down. Small stain to bottom edge of the front paste-down and front flyleaf. The interior pages are clean and unmarked. The book will be carefully packaged for shipment to protect from the elements. An electronic tracking number issued free of charge. From a Japanese master of romantic and sexual obsession come two novels that treat traditional themes with sly wit and startling psychological sophistication. In The Secret History of the Lord of Musashi, Junichir Tanizaki reimagines the exploits of a legendary samurai as a sadomasochistic dance between the hero and the wife of his enemy. Arrowroot, though set in the twentieth century, views an adult orphan's search for his mother's past through the translucent shoji screen of ancient literature and myth. Both works are replete with shocking juxtapositions. Severed heads become objects of erotic fixation. Foxes take on human shape. An aristocratic lady loves and pities the man she is conspiring to destroy. This supple translation reveals the full scope of Tanizaki's gift: his confident storytelling, luminous detail, and astonishingly vital female characters. Synopsis as described on bookfinder.
