Librería: Sue Lloyd-Davies Books, CARMARTHEN, Reino Unido
Original o primera edición
Hardcover. Condición: Very Good+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dust Jacket. Illustrated by F. C. Gordon (Frederick Charles Gordon) Ilustrador. Presumed First UK Edition. NO DATE shown but according to WorldCat there were 7 editions published between 1897 and 1899. The 1897 1st would have been American. This copy is in red pictorial cloth and has bright gilt titling to the spine and front board and All edges are gilt. Usually the copy of the book with gilt tends to be a 1st - but in this case I do not know. There is a School prize label on the front pastedown inside - dated 1905. So probably a 1st UK Edition c. 1897 - 1905? . I've guessed at 1899. The covers are bright and clean - just the slightest of shelf wear to the very corners/extremities - negligible. An Attractive copy. Internally pictorial endpapers with the Prize label on the reverse of the front cover as noted. The front inner paper hinge is split but o/w all hinges are tight. (vii) + (1) + 192 pp. NO Inscriptions or major marks, just a couple of 'closed' tears - no loss - to the bottom corners of the last few pages. The paper is (as usual with many John Shaw publications) cheaper quality, and is lightly tanned, but uniformly, with the very occasional sparce spot here and there. The 7 b/w full page plates, the b/w Frontispiece and the Title page with a b/w illustration, are all printed on more 'quality' paper. Delightful 'Art Nouveau' type illustrations by F. C. Gordon. A children's story book consisting of 2 tales (Scottish and Cornish, possibly re-told Folk Tales? ) ,1 European and 1 'Fairy' Tale all by Alicia Aspinwall = The Echo-Maid; In the Land of the Wee-Uns; The Big Light on Burning Mountain, and A Leap-Year Boy. A Delightful book. See Images. ; Squarish 8vo 8" to 9" tall.
