Hardcover. Condición: Good. Green w/pasted paper label to slightly darkened spine. Minor wear head and heel of spine, corners very slightly rubbed. Titles have faded completely from label and paper is rubbed and soiled . Top edge gilt. Lovely rough cut edge. The vast majority of the pages have never been cut. Sadly, this book has been remainder marked with a red marker, top and bottom outside edges. Does not effect text. Lovely two-color title pages. Illustrated with beautiful photogravures on Japan vellum, etchings hand painted India-plate reproductions, all with labeled tissue guards. Frontis and one other illustration. Text is clean and tight, no marks, lightly and evenly toned. Includes The Consolations of Philosophy, a translation from Boethius, with original renderings and additions, Toxophilus, the School of Shootynge, The Steel Glass, An Apologie for Poetrie, The Table Talk, Hydriotaphia (Urn-Burial), The Pit of Law, and History of John Bull, On Reticence in Criticism, Poems, a nd Biographia Literaria. Also attached is a full 2 page account of author's African safari (with photos) published in the Pittsburg Press in June 1954. Dr. Thomas Arbuthnot (1871-1956) was a distinguished surgeon and a dean of Medicine in the U of Pittsburg. His African Hunt became an instant best seller and remain as a classic hunting literature. Illustrated with 86 photographs and endpaper illustrations. 269 pages, hardcover with a nice dustjacket with little wear, signed presentation copy from the author with collectable attachments as indicated above.
